The Durham North Carolina Tourism Industry

The Durham North Carolina tourism industry is larger than some people might imagine. If you are planning to visit the city in the coming months, you should know that there are many key attractions in the area including The Nasher Museum of Art, Frankie’s Fun Park, Enco River State Park, Duke Gardens, Falls Lake State Recreation Area, Duke University Chapel, and The Museum of Life and Science.

Frankie’s Fun Park amusement center is a particularly popular attraction for those vacationing with kids. The venue has go-karts, mini-golf, laser tag, flight simulators, arcade machines, bumper boats and more. There is a sit-down restaurant on site as well as many additional fast food options. The amusement center is open every day of the week from 10 am each day. Visitors do not need to buy any passes to enter as all of the machines are pay to play.

Eno River State Park is a great recreational spot for those who love outdoor activities. The park has 3,900+ acres of woodlands, making it a great location for camping and hiking. The entire park is very pet-friendly, and a great place for dog walking. There are also many spots open on Eno River for fishing and canoeing.

The Nasher Museum of Art is a good place to visit if you are a fan of ancient and modern artworks. A permanent collection of over 10,000 artworks are housed in the museum, and throughout the year, many traveling exhibits are also showcased. The art museum was named for Raymond Nasher and attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.

Now to learn a little bit more about the city. It was named after Dr. Bartlett Snipes Durham when it was incorporated in April 1869. It is the fourth most populous city in the US state of North Carolina with an estimated current population of around 263,016 according to the most recent estimates. It has a total of six global sister cities: Arusha, Tanzania; Durham, United Kingdom; Kostroma, Russia; Kavala, Greece; Zhuzhou, Hunan, China; and Yama, Japan. The city is served by the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and has a well-connected public transport network of buses and trains.

Duke University is one of the biggest employers in Durham NC. Other large employers in the city include Duke University Health System, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Fidelity Investments, IQVIA, VA Medical Center, RTI International, Durham Public Schools, AW North Carolina, and Cree. The city’s tourism industry also employs lots of workers.
