Now to learn a little bit more about the city. It was named after Dr. Bartlett Snipes Durham when it was incorporated in April 1869. It is the fourth most populous city in the US state of North Carolina with an estimated current population of around 263,016 according to the most recent estimates. It has a total of six global sister cities: Arusha, Tanzania; Durham, United Kingdom; Kostroma, Russia; Kavala, Greece; Zhuzhou, Hunan, China; and Yama, Japan. The city is served by the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and has a well-connected public transport network of buses and trains.

Other large employers in the city include Duke University Health System, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Fidelity Investments, IQVIA, VA Medical Center, RTI International, Durham Public Schools, AW North Carolina, and Cree.
